Description
Tom Ferguson’s farm is in the background of this scenic landscape in Swain County. The area is the site of Kituwah, the Cherokees' first settlement, the Mother Town of the Cherokee, and is designated a National Historic Site. This is also near the site of present-day Darnell Farms. This photo is from the Tuckaseigee Soil & Water Conservation District, which was formed in western North Carolina in 1957 and became the Swain Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) in 1982. The Swain SWCD’s mission is to provide for a quality environment and higher standard of living while protecting natural resources. The Swain SWCD photographs capture various SWCD projects throughout Swain, Jackson, Graham, Haywood, and surrounding counties in western North Carolina.
