Description

Three cows graze on a hillside in Buncombe County, North Carolina. The reverse reads “hillside pasture on 45 percent slope treated with triple super-phosphate and seeded to redtop, orchard grass, lespedeza, clover, and bluegrass.” This photo is from the Tuckaseigee Soil & Water Conservation District, which was formed in western North Carolina in 1957 and became the Swain Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) in 1982. The Swain SWCD’s mission is to provide for a quality environment and higher standard of living while protecting natural resources. The Swain SWCD photographs capture various SWCD projects throughout Swain, Jackson, Graham, Haywood, and surrounding counties in western North Carolina.
