Description
Jim Oliver’s farm is on a three-year strip crop rotation of small grain, clover-grass, and corn. The corn is on the left, clover-grass is in the middle, and the small grain is on the right. A farmhouse sits halfway up the hill behind the field in Swain County. This photo is from the Tuckaseigee Soil & Water Conservation District, which was formed in western North Carolina in 1957 and became the Swain Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) in 1982. The Swain SWCD’s mission is to provide for a quality environment and higher standard of living while protecting natural resources. The Swain SWCD photographs capture various SWCD projects throughout Swain, Jackson, Graham, Haywood, and surrounding counties in western North Carolina.
