Description

The photograph for this postcard labeled on the reverse, “Tryon Bay Bridge, Lake Lure, North Carolina (Tryon N. C. 21 miles away)” was taken by George Masa (1885-1933). The postcard is part of a series of photographs taken by Masa and purchased by K. S. Tanner Jr. who imported the cards from Switzerland through his company North Carolina Securities Co. Apparently Masa sold the images to Asheville Post Card Company and Southern Post Card Company who produced postcards using the same images. This item is from the Hart Masa Collection, a collection of photographs, publications, postcards, correspondence, and ephemera related to the life and work of photographer George Masa. Known for his iconic images of the Southern Appalachian Mountains and his advocacy for the creation of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Masa also produced commercial work for private businesses, publishers, news services, and other entities. The Hart Masa Collection was assembled by donors William A. Hart, Jr., and Alice Huff Hart, who provided much of the contextual information for the items in this collection.
