Description

Brasstown Carver Doris (Dot) Reece (1910-1994) was born and raised in Pine Log, NC. Dot was one of the earliest female Brasstown Carvers. She began carving in 1942 after being introduced to it by Hope and Glenn Brown. Dot carved for much of her life, between growing and preserving food, raising seven children, and working as a hospital nurse’s aide. Her specialties were piglets and napkin rings. Dot’s daughter Leonora also took up carving, though she did not carve for the Brasstown Carvers.
