Description

Elisha Hall (right) and W.T. Massey (left) work on various woodcarvings while a young child looks on, c. 1945. Brothers Elisha Hall (1878-1947) and A. Ben Hall were two of the many Brasstown Carvers from the extended Hall family, who moved from Buncombe County, NC, to the area around Brasstown in the 1920s. William Talmadge (Tal) Massey (1888-1963) was one of the first Brasstown Carvers, using carving to supplement his income from carving. Two of his daughters, Pearl Massey and Nell Massey Lee, also became Brasstown Carvers.
