Description
Hope Brown and Glenn Brown carving, c. 1954. Brasstown Carvers and husband-and-wife duo Hope Caler Brown (1915-2015) and Glenn Brown (1916-1994) both began carving around 1940. Glenn was best known for his carvings of birds, while Hope carved the first cat as well as the first infant Jesus crèche figure for the Brasstown Carvers. She modeled her figurines of children on the couple’s own eight offspring. Hope also made and updated many patterns for the Brasstown Carvers.
