Description

Verne Rhoades, an alum of the Biltmore Forest School, stands in the doorway of the partially reconstructed schoolhouse in Pink Beds. Workers on the left scaffold are constructing the building's roof. Reconstruction of the school's buildings began in 1967 and the site was designated as "The Cradle of American Forestry" by Congress in 1968. In 1974, the site was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
