In this letter from December 24, 1863, N.G. Phillips writes to Joseph Cathey, informing him of the poor conditions to be found in Cherokee County due to the war. With his return to active duty drawing closer, Phillips requests that his family might move to Cathey's territory and be provided a house and land so that they can escape the difficult conditions in Cherokee County.
