Description

This photographic postcard depicts a woman surrounded by split-oak baskets. Split-oak baskets are one of the most common types of traditional handmade baskets in the southern Appalachians. Although the photographer and purpose of the photograph is unknown, it was probably made or collected by Frances Goodrich either to document products sold through Allanstand Cottage Industries or as an example of work being done in Appalachia. This photograph appears in Goodrich's 1931 book, "Mountain Homespun."
