Description

This article was written by Frances L. Goodrich and published in the April 1900 issue of "Southern Workman." In this article, Goodrich paints a quaint picture of what life was like for early settlers on the frontier in western North Carolina, including women's work with textile fibers to create clothing and linens for the family. She mentions that weaving has been revived in several communities, but then goes into more lengthy descriptions of weaving pattern names and the challenge of using natural dyes. The article is illustrated with two watercolors made by Goodrich, along with a photographic close-up of a weaving pattern.
