Description

This catalog describes the classes offered at Penland School of Handicrafts, now Penland School of Crafts, during the summer of 1945. Course offerings included weaving, pottery, jewelry making, metalwork, basketry, chair caning, shuckery, bookbinding, silk-screening, batik, drawing, painting, and design. Mention is made of a special session for blind students sponsored by the North Carolina State Commission for the Blind and of the annual meeting of the Southern Highland Handicraft Guild, now the Southern Highland Craft Guild, which was held at Penland September 11-22, 1945. The catalog includes descriptions of Penland school and the surrounding area and is illustrated with small drawings by Howard C. "Toni" Ford.
