Description
John C. Campbell Folk School published a series of newsletters from 1926 to 1950. Written like a letter from the school's director, the newsletter is a source of information about the classes and activities at the Folk School and their impact on the surrounding community. This issue begins with an update on building the Community House, and a description of the trials of winter weather and illnesses which made for a difficult session. Daily chores are described and classes outlined in detail. The weekly schedule included Friday night community dancing, or "singing games." The last day of the session is described with singing and an exhibit of handmade items produced by students such as "table runners, towels, cotton and linsey dresses, and baby blankets woven by the girls; iron door handles and brackets hammered out by the boys, and their maps and charts." Include are photographs of the Community House, farm animals, planting trees, and sewing and weaving.
