Description

John C. Campbell Folk School published a series of newsletters from 1926 to 1950. Written like a letter from the school's director, the newsletter is a source of information about the classes and activities at the Folk School and their impact on the surrounding community. In this issue, the aims, goals, and progress of the school are evaluated in context of the conditions throughout Appalachia, with numerous quotes by Allen Eaton. Also included are reports from various Brasstown community initiatives. The Men's and Women's Clubs have held joint meetings for socializing and beautifying the community, such as planting trees and shrubs by the Creamery. The report for Brasstown Savings and Loan Association stated presently there were 85 members with a capital of over $2,000. Also reported was the Creamery securing first place for butter at the 1930 North Carolina State Fair and the Handicraft Association being accepted as a member of the newly formed Southern Highland Handicraft Guild.
