Description
This promotional brochure describes the line of American Cameo pottery produced by Walter B. Stephen and his Pisgah Forest Pottery in Arden, North Carolina. The American Cameo line was modeled on English Wedgwood pottery; Stephen painted scenes on his pottery with "translucent white porcelain clay." Many of his American Cameo designs featured rustic scenes, most likely influenced by his early years growing up on the Nebraska frontier. These include the Covered Wagon, the Buffalo Hunt, and the Indian Campfire. Stephen and his mother founded the Nonconnah Pottery in Shelby County, Tennessee. Later he moved to Arden, N.C. and founded the Pisgah Forest Pottery around 1926. The pottery still occupies its site south of Asheville, N.C.
