This photograph depicts regional crafts exhibited at the meeting of the Conference of Southern Mountain Workers held in Knoxville, Tenn., March 1930. The Southern Mountain Handicraft Guild held its first official meeting in conjunction with the Conference. Charter and future guild members submitted items for the exhibition to show the range and quality of regional crafts. Allen Eaton arranged the displays. Written on the back of this photograph is: "Plate no. 1. A view of a part of the central wall of the handicraft exhibition on which was arranged one or more examples of handicraft work from each of the thirty two centers exhibiting." A quilt occupies the center of the wall, behind a carved bedstead. Woven coverlets hang on each side, as well as woven tapestries, a shawl, rugs, and furniture.
