This photograph depicts regional crafts exhibited at the meeting of the Conference of Southern Mountain Workers held in Knoxville, Tenn., March 1930. The Southern Mountain Handicraft Guild held its first official meeting in conjunction with the Conference. Charter and future guild members submitted items for the exhibition to show the range and quality of regional crafts. Allen Eaton arranged the displays. Written on the back of this photograph is: "Plate no. 2. A closer view of the central wall in the first handicraft exhibition of the Southern Mountain Handicraft Guild." An appliqued quilt occupies the center, hanging behind a turned bedstead with a rug draped over the foot. Several woven pieces are displayed including two coverlets, four hand towels, table runners, purses, and a pillow. There are two handmade brooms and baskets, as well as footstools and a chair.
