Description
This photograph depicts regional crafts exhibited at the meeting of the Conference of Southern Mountain Workers held in Knoxville, Tenn., in 1931. The Southern Mountain Handicraft Guild (later the Southern Highland Handicraft Guild) met in conjunction with the Conference. The Guild presented an exhibition of mountain crafts with an emphasis on the tools for creating crafts. In this photograph an old barn loom occupies the foreground. To the right is a spinning wheel. Several small items are arranged on the bed. On the right is a display of wood-working tools. Finished items include a pieced quilt behind the loom, a woven coverlet behind the bed, baskets hanging on a pole, and a child's high chair.
