Description

Bedspreads were divided into quilts, coverlets, and counterpanes. This counterpane is all cotton and seem to be all white. Frances Goodrich collected samples of regional hand weaving. This one done by an unknown weaver has a label sewn on it which reads: Fragment of Counterpane, Broken Dimity. Buncombe Co." Dimity is a puckered fabric, like today's seersucker. The samples were frequently on display, which caused the staining of the fabric.
