Hayden Hensley and wife, Bonnie Logan Hensley, early students and carvers at the John C. Campbell Folk School, were able to purchase this house solely from the funds they earned from woodcarving. Many carvers were farmers who carved as a means of supplementing income. The house, located in Murphy, North Carolina, was referred to by the couple as "the house that carving built."
