Description

This basswood rabbit was carved by Martha Coffey. Born in South Carolina, Coffey moved to the Brasstown area in 1930 with her family. She learned to carve under Jack Hall at the John C. Campbell Folk School and sold her work through the Folk School's woodcarving cooperative that became known as the Brasstown Carvers. Martha Coffey regularly made the camels used in nativity scenes and has carved skunks, dogs and chickens in many poses and sizes.
