This photograph was taken by Doris Ulmann in 1933 or 1934, the two summers she spent in North Carolina, primarily in the Brasstown area. The portrait depicts an unidentified family seated out of doors performing daily activities. Ulmann found much beauty and value in the daily work of the Appalachian people.
