Description
These carvings of a mama bear with two cubs are made from walnut. A 1977 appraisal of the Hubert Hayes Collection attributes these to Goingback Chiltoskey. Chiltoskey (1907-2000), also known as Going Back Chiltoskie and G. B. Chiltosky, was a renowned Cherokee Indian woodcarver who also taught wood crafts at the Cherokee School in Cherokee, North Carolina.
