Description
These unidentified demonstrators are probably Helen Wilmer Stone Viner (ca. 1891-1978) and her son. Viner was born in Louisiana and came to Appalachia as a teacher at the Pine Mountain Settlement School in Kentucky. She later moved to Saluda, North Carolina, where she had a weaving studio. Her husband, Scrope Viner, and her son were both a part of the weaving business. In the photograph her son is helping her remove dyed fiber from the dye-pot at the 1948 Craftsman's Fair of the Southern Highlands in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
