Penland School of Handicrafts
Description
This photograph depicts the Edward F. Worst Craft House on the campus of the Penland School of Handicrafts (now Penland School of Crafts). The building was named after the school's first weaving instructor, Edward F. Worst. The structure was erected during a community log-raising held in early May 1935. The building was put into use that summer despite, as can be seen in this photograph, the lack of windows and chinking between the logs. The students attending the 1935 Weaving Institute donated money for the windows which were in place by the following summer. This photograph was taken by Bayard Wootten.
