Description

Born and raised in Birdtown, Lloyd Carl Owle learned woodcarving from a number of accomplished carvers on the Qualla Boundary. He took high school classes in woodcarving and attended Western Carolina University. He was inspired by Mose Owle and also learned from John Julius Wilnoty. Owle incorporates Cherokee legends and stories into his carvings of masks and animal figures. A respected member of the community, Owle has also served on Tribal Council.
