Wauchecha 'Bald' (just off the Appalachian Trail) is the sharp peak in the center. The eastern end of Yellow Creek Mountain are seen to the right of Wauchecha - a faint outline of the Smokies is seen in the background. -Dutch Roth 6-26-32." The photograph is in the records of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club. The photographer, Albert Gordon "Dutch" Roth (1890-1974), was an employee of the Southern Railroad and an avid photographer. The club was formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924. Established in Knoxville, Tennessee, the first official club hike was led by Roth in December 1924.
