Description
Zebulon Weaver (1872-1948) was a lawyer and U.S. Representative from western North Carolina. He was a member of the North Carolina Park Commission and was involved in the land acquisition process that went towards establishment of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and development of the Blue Ridge Parkway. This set of letter deals with John W. Leatherwood’s appointment as carpenter at the Smoky Mountain National Park. Following are brief summaries of each of these letters: R.A. Livingston to John W. Leatherwood, July 7, 1932 In this letter Livingston responds to Leatherwood’s query regarding the latter’s appointment as a carpenter in the National Park. John W. Leatherwood to Zebulon Weaver, July 9, 1932 In this letter Leatherwood requests Weaver if the latter can get his appointment as a carpenter confirmed from the government since his name has been certified by the Civil Service Commission.
