Description

Zebulon Weaver (1872-1948) was a lawyer and U.S. Representative from western North Carolina. He was a member of the North Carolina Park Commission and was involved in the land acquisition process that went towards establishment of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and development of the Blue Ridge Parkway. This set of two letters represent the League of Women Citizens’ support for the national park’s development. Following are brief summaries of each of the letters: Mrs. Ed White and Mrs. P. G. Johnson (League of Women Citizens) to Zebulon Weaver, March 23, 1932 In this letter, Mrs. White and Mrs. Johnson of the League of Women Citizens express support for the appropriations necessary for the development of the Smoky Mountains National Park that would provide employment and stimulate business and trade in the surrounding areas. Zebulon Weaver to Mrs. Ed White, April 2, 1932 In this letter, Weaver thanks Mrs. White for her support regarding the park’s development and points out this should come relatively soon once more lands have been acquired and the park handed over to the national government.
