Description

Zebulon Weaver (1872-1948) was a lawyer and U.S. Representative from western North Carolina. He was a member of the North Carolina Park Commission and was involved in the land acquisition process that went towards establishment of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and development of the Blue Ridge Parkway. In this letter Schulze provides a detailed explanation of the advances in conservation achieved under him through the Branch of Forestry and how he had been wrongfully criticized for his representation of the mismanagement of the Smokies by the Branch of Plans and Designs under Mr. Ludgate and by Park Superintendent Mr. Eakin on the North Carolina side. According to Schulze he was being transferred to Mississippi because of these objections he had raised and he requests Weaver to consider this matter and see to it that further mismanagement is prevented.
