Description

On the reverse of this image is written, "Clingmans Dome (center background [dim]), Silers Bald (at extreme left background) and Andrews Bald (right of Clingmans), as seen from Tommies Knob on Yellow Creek Mountain. The Deals Gap- Bryson City road, following thru the Little Tennessee River Gorge, is seen. Clearings in the foreground are in the Tuskegee (N.C.) community. (Clingmans, Silers and Tommies Knob are on the Appalachian Trail. -Roth Apr. 2, 1933." In 2024 Clingmans Dome was restored to its original name of Kuwohi. The photograph is included in the records of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club which was formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924. The back of the picture is stamped “Jim Thompson Co.”
