Description

This series of letters from the early 1970s was written by Julian Gocek concerning a series of photographs he donated to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Gocek, writing from Liverpool, New York, was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps in its earliest days. Included in this series are 12 photographs that Gocek took in 1933 and 1934 in and around Ravensford, North Carolina. Gocek was 16-years-old when he worked at the camp, arriving to live in a tent camp before the barracks were built. Each photograph includes a lengthy caption on the back.
