Description

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was established in 1933 as a public works program during the Great Depression. There were 22 camps located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This photograph is of Otha Allen, a CCC enrollee at Camp Kephart. Information provided by Wayne Allen of Savannah, Tennessee gives Otha Allen’s birth and death dates as 1917-1990. Nicknamed “Cook,” Allen worked on Kuwohi (Clingmans Dome 1859-2024).
