Description

Santeetlah Dam was built for hydroelectric generation on the Cheoah River in Graham County, North Carolina. The Santeetlah Project, which began in 1925, was completed in 1928 by the Tallassee Power Company (now Tapoco). The reverse of the photograph is stamped "McLean's Fadeless Prints Knoxville Tenn." and written by hand "photo JJ Meyers." The picture is in the collection of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club, an organization that formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924.
