Description

On the reverse of this image is written, "After that weary trudge along the torturous 'Hell Ridge' in the broiling sun, this camp site at the spring near the top of Mt. Guyot was a most welcome sight. This balsam forest is typical of that which crowns the high peaks from Old Black across Mt. Guyot, Mt. Chapman, Mt. Sequoyah, Eagle Rocks, Pecks Corner, The Sawtooth Range, Mt. Kephart, Mt. Collins to Clingman's Dome and 2 miles westward - as well as Mt. LeConte... --Walter Berry 8-10-32." In 2024 Clingmans Dome was restored to its original name of Kuwohi. The photograph is included in the records of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club which was formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924. The back of the picture is stamped “Jim Thompson Co."
