Description
On the reverse of this image is written, "A moment's rest just before tackling 'Hell Ridge' in a broiling sun. Two canteens each, and a 2 - gallon canvas bag, filled at a spring on Tennessee side here was by no means adequate for the scortching that was coming to us the next 5 or 6 hours. - Walter M. Berry 8-9-32." The photograph is included in the records of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club which was formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924.
