Description
This 1926 photograph of a hiker near Indian Gap is in the records of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club. The club was formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924. Indian Gap was the original pass through the Great Smoky Mountains. In the mid-1930s it was replaced by Newfound Gap Road two miles to the east. Newfound Gap Road is also highway 441.
