Description
A penstock is an enclosed pipe that delivers water to hydro turbines. This photograph, most likely made in 1927, is of the penstock surge tank at Rymers Ferry as seen from boat in Little Tennessee River. Rymers Ferry is located on the south side of Cheoah River in Graham County, North Carolina. The picture is in the records of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club. The club was formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924.
