Description
Wonderland Hotel was built in 1912 and the Wonderland Club in 1919. Little River Lumber Company owner, Wilson Townsend, first built a logging camp at Elkmont and then a railroad line. As timber was depleted, he began promoting Elmont as a resort community and, in 1909, added passenger service to the logging train. Townsend first built the Appalachian Club in 1910 and subsequently built Wonderland.
