E. W. Bird writes Horace Kephart seeking advice on how to outfit and organize a company of sharpshooters from Minnesota to participate in the Spanish-American War. Bird would like it to resemble the Berdan Sharpshooters and asks Kephart for their history. He also asks for specifics on what type of gun to use.
