Description

In this letter, Robt. L. (Robert Lee) Madison (1867-1954), Superintendent of Public Instruction in Jackson Country, is notifying Professor J. N. Wilson, the Bursar at Cullowhee Normal and Industrial School, that the State and County have appropriated $400 for a summer school held for Jackson County teachers in connection with the summer session of the Cullowhee Normal and Industrial School. Madison, considered as the founder of Western Carolina University, served as first president of Cullowhee High School, later renamed as the Cullowhee Normal and Industrial School, from 1889-1912 and also from 1920-1923.
