In this letter, H. M. Candler is sending a check for $3.00 to P. L. Elliott, chairman of the Home Coming Committee, in exchange for two football game tickets. The game was being held as a fundraiser for the Madison Memorial in honor of Robert Lee Madison (1867–1954). Madison, considered as the founder of Western Carolina University, served as first president of Cullowhee High School, later Cullowhee Normal and Industrial School, from 1889-1912 and also from 1920-1923.
