Description
A fire erupted in Hunter Library at Western Carolina University on February 26, 1989. Campus security officer W. R. Holder reported the fire at 5:50 AM and it was contained in the check-out service of the Media Center. The fire destroyed audio-visual equipment, instructional film, video tapes, and compact disk collections. An estimated 300,000 volumes were covered in soot and needed cleaning. On April 24, 1989, Hunter Library reopened on a reduced capacity.
