Description

This 1938 photograph taken by W. Newton Turner (1910-1995) shows four men with three hunted deer on an automobile. Mentioned on the back of the photograph are N. H. Gurley, John Hooper, Elliott, and Lewis. The caption also mentions that Gurley had a kidney stone and did not hunt. Cullowhee Baptist Church is visible on the far left and behind is Buzzard's Roost. Turner began teaching as an assistant professor of geology and geography in 1937 and filled a variety of roles before retiring on December 29, 1971 as Vice President of Western Carolina University.
