Description

This 1941 photograph taken by W. Newton Turner (1910-1995) shows a visiting marching band during a football game on Hunter Field. Cullowhee Baptist Church is visible in the background, as well as the chimney of the steam plant. Turner began teaching as an assistant professor of geology and geography in 1937 and filled a variety of roles before retiring on December 29, 1971 as Vice President of Western Carolina University.
