Description

This 1939 group photograph taken by W. Newton Turner (1910-1995) in front of Joyner Building, shows H. T. Hunter left front, Alice Benton next to him and Phil L. Elliott in the front right. Mary Dell Davis, Charles Holloman, Dean Frazier, and Herbert Cohn are indicated with pen on the front of the photograph. Turner began teaching as an assistant professor of geology and geography in 1937 and filled a variety of roles before retiring on December 29, 1971 as Vice President of Western Carolina University.
