Abstract

Stepping away from an art teaching persona and dedicating almost two years toward an MAED degree allowed me to create work that had a new degree of professionalism, and I subsequently have gained innumerable insights about how to teach art more effectively. This thesis discusses how I investigated meanings of postmodern art-making and interfaced these ideals in my own sculpture projects. Additionally, by becoming more attuned to the process of art, I recognized that for me, authentic art-making is the result of transcendence of intentions. I will discuss the meanings of both concepts by reflecting on benchmark pieces I have made in the past two years. Then, I will discuss implications of postmodern teaching theory as well as transcendence of intentions with regard to my beliefs about effective art teaching.
