Abstract
Melodic Intonation Therapy (MIT) is a relatively well known systematic treatment used to facilitate phrase-length utterances in individuals with aphasia. MIT was designed to be used with patients with Broca's Aphasia (BA). Because the principles of MIT (e.g., repetition, timing, stress and intonation) are consistent with principles used successfully with persons with Apraxia of Speech (AOS) and the criteria for choosing good candidates for MIT (e.g. a typical Brocas Aphasia) use of MIT with persons with AOS is reasonable. Two persons with both BA and AOS showed acquisition, generalization and maintenance effects after treatment with MIT.
