Abstract
The present study examined the relationship between episodic and dispositional forgiveness and the successful resolution of Erik Erikson's (1963) psychosocial stages. Episodic forgiveness assessed the extent participants have forgiven their most severe interpersonal offense. Participants in the study (N =66) completed the Enright Forgiveness Inventory (EFI; Enright, R. D., & Rique, J. R., 2004), the Tendency to Forgive Scale (TTF; Brown, R. P., 2003), and the Measures of Psychosocial Development (MPD; Hawley, G. A., 1988). Statistically significant relationships were found between both episodic and dispositional forgiveness and the resolution of psychosocial crises. These results extend the findings of Romig, C. and Veenstra, G. (1998). Theoretical and clinical implications of results are discussed.
