Description

The historic Jackson County Courthouse serves as the setting for Amy's opening story, "Grandpa and his Still,” with music from Black Mountain’s Ginny McAfee singing “The Things That Grandpa Did.” On Creative Corner, Doreyl and her guest, Doris Hunter, discuss the importance of mountain heritage crafts and the annual Mountain Artisans Summertime Arts and Crafts Show; "Nut Factory Shuffle" by the Pic n’ Play Dulcimer Group follows the interview. Amy’s guest, Madge Hyatt, shares stories of her childhood in Bryson City, followed by "On Sunny Banks" from Archie Watkins. On Apple Butter, Nicole interviews Enka High School’s Nancy Smith about the results of her oral history project on Appalachian women; the Spirit-Filled Trio’s "Treasures Money Can't Buy" closes the interview. On Down Another Road, Judy interviews Nanette Corn Fuchs of Avery's Creek in Arden. Fuchs talks about the continuing legacy of her family’s business, Evan's Pottery, followed by the McDowell family’s rendition of "Wheel Hoss.” The song "Go Rest High on That Mountain" by the Hominy Valley Boys closes the show.
